"Spring Beauty" is still the story today. The woods were carpeted with it, for acres. Due to the flower's small size it's really not possible to capture the scene photographically. That's ok, some things just have to be experienced in person.
I was set off on today's journey in search of one lone violet that my wife saw yesterday afternoon. She described where it was, off to the left of the trail, near a large tree, surrounded by leeks and across from some hemlocks. The area where it was is not on my usual route and being unfamilar with the area I wasn't able to find the lone flower. But that's the beauty of this process. A trip into the woods is never wasted and if you don't find the sought after treasure you'll find some other.
